HHS Awards $16.2 Million for Meth Treatment
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has awarded over $16.2 million for programs that provide treatment for methamphetamine and other emerging drug use among adults in rural communities.
Eleven new three-year grants will be coupled with six existing grants that target this hard-hit demographic, which has seen a marked increase in persons seeking treatment for meth abuse, accounting for as much as 20 percent of admissions in states like Arkansas, California, and Utah.
Approximately $5.4 million will be distributed per year. Average individual awards total between $400,000 and $500,000 per year. Awards were made to organizations in California, Georgia, Montana, Utah, New Mexico, Oregon, and Texas. Go online for a full list of funded programs and organizations.
