Ill. Meth Bill Moves to Governor
Illinois is poised to adopt new legislation that would tighten sales of medications that can be used to manufacture illicit methamphetamine, the Abington Argus reported Nov. 12.
The state Senate passed a bill restricting sales of cold medicines and other drugs containing pseudoephedrine and sent it on to Gov. Rod Blagojevich. The measure, which would require buyers to sign a logbook and present ID, previously was approved by the state House. It brings Illinois law into line with similar measures adopted in neighboring states, like Iowa and Missouri.
A number of residents from those states have been coming into Illinois to purchase large quantities of drugs containing pseudoephedrine, resulting in several arrests.
